I can't fucking wait for this game. DOA, move over for the new king of T&A. Hit the jump for a link to more screens and full length thong-wearing glory.
as long as the gameplay is tight for SCIV, Tecmo's got a lot of catching up to do. The guest character designer idea is freakin' brilliant. Itagaki's such a control freak he'd probably never even think of such a thing, let alone allow it.
The gameplay in SCIV is being dumbed down for casual play. High Level Play may still be found within it, but we're not for sure yet. As for the guest characters, their cool. But they're there just for fandom and to score in more money. Itagaki, of couse, wouldn't think about adding in a dozen guest characters because they're not needed to make the game better. However, Itagaki did allow Nicole in DOA4 as the first and currently only guest character. If SCIV did not include the guest characters, I'd still be all for buying the game.
Evidence proves anything but. Nothing is being taken away from the gameplay, just simply added. Hilde's character supposedly plays far different than any of the characters on the roster, then add the soul meter and critical finish factors as well.
Soul Calibur has always been accessible and user-friendly. These guest characters are simply frosting on top of the cake. Instead of releasing the same game again, they're going the extra mile with all these new options for players to explore.
But you're right, Itagaki wouldn't include a half-dozen unique guest characters in his game, he'd just have his artists copy and paste the base models for all the characters and just give them different clothes, hair and eye colors then slap a fighting engine on it. Honestly, there's a time and place for DOA fanboyism and this isn't one of them.
At 1up, there's an interview with one of the developers - there's a couple more guest artists doing some characters as well. So we haven't seen the last of them. Then there's always DLC post-release.

This > DOA.
Can't do battle proper without chaps and a ninja thong, regardless of how many swords you're wielding!
To be honest, I don't mind the +1 sex factor for SC IV, just so as long they keep up the gameplay.
agreed.

Huh?
She's a MILF? This is craziness.
Well...
she may or may not be a MILF, but it's the first thing I thought when I saw her character. :D
That, and I thought "Ninja MILF" was an awesome term.
