Vampire Knight - Pretty Boys with Fangs.

Vampire Knight image

As I wade through the onslaught of new anime series this spring, I hesitated before watching Studio Deen's latest show, Vampire Knight, because 9 times out of 10 these pretty-boy shows don't click with me. When they do work (i.e. Host Club) it's usually because the show is actually very funny, the situtation is unique, and/or the characters are compelling. Is Vampire Knight worth a watch? Read on.

Vampire Knight centers around a school that has both day and night students. Of course, the night students are all vampires and they keep them separate. This is the equivalent of letting wolves sleep with the sheep and hoping the wolves will behave. Luckliy for the day students there are "wranglers" that patrol the grounds to protect bleeding day students from thirsty vampires. Sounds fun, eh?

So, what do we have here. Unique situation? Check. The right amount of comic relief? Check. Compelling characters? So far, check. Plus, vampires are just cool (even if they are a tad emo).

The premiere episode has been subbed by Shoku-dan if you're interested. Check it out here.
